Record losses for Man City, but they did sell some scarves

Manchester City announced record losses of £121.3 million in their annual report. Of course, this is a surprise to no one with their £133 million wage bill. That, however, was not the full extent of the club's increased spending.

From Soccernet:

Off the pitch City recruited an additional 106 non-playing staff, they donated £423,586 to UK charities and put over £1.5 million into developments to the stadium and the training ground. Some of these improvements included 408 heated seats in the boardroom and 30% bigger pies on sale during matchdays.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. They brought on an additional 106 non-playing staff? Why would they need to hire that many people? Aside from filling out the much-need team of money counters and providing Nigel De Jong with an army of people he can tackle at will, 24 hours a day. Also, I have a whole range of questions on the 30% bigger pies -- like how they settled on making them exactly 30% bigger and just how much more 30% bigger pies cost to produce. We'll save them for another time.

The money's not all going out, though. Some is coming into the club, too. Count it:

They did recoup some cash from the sale of 12,000 of Roberto Mancini's trademark scarves, at £8 each.

Boom. That paid off about an hour of Gareth Barry's wages right there. So deal with that, accountants.

Seriously though, it's not like any of this matters to Man City. See the picture at the top of the post? That's Man City owner Sheikh Mansour and I bet he just kept smiling and waving even after being told his club lost £121.3 million. That's chump change to him. He would burn £121.3 million on a casual dare. And then he'd pay Messi to make him an ice cream sundae just because he can.
