Puck Headlines: ESPN's All-Overrated team; Canucks trade S.O.B.

Here are your Puck Headlines: a glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• The question isn't whether defenseman Shane O'Brien(notes) will help his new team the Nashville Predators, after being traded there today with Dan Gendur(notes) for the much-traveled Ryan Parent(notes) and Jonas Andersson(notes). The question is whether S.O.B. will be allowed to keep his bar tabs open in Vancouver. We demand answers! [The Province, Nucks Misconduct]

• Scott Burnside names Stephane Rodidas of the Dallas Stars as "Mr. Underrated," but we're much more interested in the sidebar: ESPN's All-Overrated Team. That would be Alexei Kovalev, Martin Havlat(notes), Olli Jokinen(notes), Jay Bouwmeester(notes) and Bryan McCabe(notes), with Rick DiPietro(notes) in goal. DiPietro's overrated? Based on, what, his 25 minutes of ice time in the last three years? [ESPN]

• Bet that 1 year, $1 million deal is looking pretty sweet to Andreas Lilja(notes) right about now, after having been cut by the San Jose Sharks. [Sporting News]

• Your waiver wire drops, per TSN: Jeff Tambellini(notes) (VAN); Alex Henry(notes) and Curtis Sanford(notes) (MTL); David Hale(notes) (OTT); Brett Sutter(notes) (CGY); Ryan Potulny(notes), Jassen Cullimore(notes) (CHI); Andrew Ebbett(notes) (PHO); Andy Hilbert(notes) (NYI); Tim Kennedy(notes), Todd White(notes) (NYR); Alexander Sulzer(notes) (NAS); Michael Blunden, Nate Guenin(notes) (CLB); Ryan Craig(notes), Andrew Hutchinson(notes) (PIT) ; Kirk Maltby(notes), Derek Meech(notes) (DET); Mathieu Roy(notes) (TB); Drew Bagnall(notes), Matt Kassian(notes) (MIN); Patrick McNeill(notes), Steve Pinnizotto, Andrew Gordon(notes), Brian Fahey(notes) (WAS); Mark Parrish(notes) (BUF). Interesting Thanksgiving at the Sutter house, as always. [TSN]

• The New York Daily News on Tim Kennedy and Todd White from the New York Rangers being placed on waivers, getting this Glen Sather quote: "Let's say Ovechkin was on waivers tomorrow, and we wanted to claim him ... This gives us the room to be able to do it. Not that everybody wouldn't want the first shot at Ovechkin." [NYDN]

• The 10 players seeking a comeback in 2010-11, including Marty Turco(notes), Olli Jokinen and Cam Ward(notes): "Carolina got old last year, prompting a major team overhaul. Ward hopes to benefit from that. After winning just 18 times last year, he hopes to regain his 2008-09 form - 39 victories, 2.44 GAA and .916 save percentage." [STL Today]

• In order to get under the salary cap by Wednesday's deadline, the New Jersey Devils will likely have a 20-man roster. And with that, Lou Lamoriello drops his abacus and calls it a day. [Fire & Ice]

• A man has been attempting to sell coupons for Nashville Predators tickets. Police became suspicious when they heard the coupons read "Playoffs: Round 2." [Times Gazette]

• Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray doesn't see the team having issues in goal. [Slam Sports]

• Todd Richards is trying to get his players to buy into his system with the Minnesota Wild: "I think we have a great leader in Mikko Koivu(notes). He's a good captain now and he's going to be a great captain in the future. I think he's got a great support staff of Brunette, Schultz, Zanon, and you bring in Madden and Cullen now, and I think that's huge. That's why I say that. I think guys know and they do understand that there are little things that can be fixed." [NHL]

• Kirk Maltby and Derek Meech had been waived by the Detroit Red Wings. Said Matt Saler: So does Maltby go to the AHL or does he retire ... that's assuming a third option, that he gets claimed, isn't really likely. Though I wouldn't put it past the Lightning, who may want his leadership." [On The Wings]

• The New York Islanders have claimed Michael Grabner(notes) off waivers from the Florida Panthers; you'll recall he came over from Vancouver in the Keith Ballard(notes) trade. Says Chris Botta: "Put this in the same category of plucking Rob Schemp a year ago." What category is that? The low-risk one. [NYI Point Blank]

• Speaking of Botta, he has an emotional and compelling piece on FanHouse featuring Zenon Konopka(notes), the former Tampa Bay Lightning fan favorite now skating with the Islanders. In it, Konopka tells the extraordinary story of his Polish-born father's death and how it affected his family. Great, humanizing stuff. [FanHouse]

• Scout's-eye view of minor league demotions. [THN]

• Jeff Tambellini on waivers means longshot camp invitee Peter Schaefer(notes) looks solid for the Vancouver Canucks' 13th forward. If only there were another Tambellini in a position of power in the NHL to offer Jeff a gig ... [White Towel]

• Mike Cammalleri on his 1-game suspension from the NHL: "I don't think it's in anybody's best interest at this point to keep focusing on what happened." [Habs]

• Finally, the Dallas Stars Ice Girls have been putting out teasers for their 2010 Lake Video, in which they frolic in a houseboat in bikinis. In this latest one, yours truly gets inexplicably name-checked. To quote the great Roger Ebert: "Now that I've inspired a character in a Godzilla movie, all I really still desire is for several Ingmar Bergman characters to sit in a circle and read my reviews to one another in hushed tones."
